FORMFACTOR; LESSONS FROM A MEMS STARTUP COMPANY

FormFactor was founded in Elmsford New York in 1993, and has grown over the years to be the number one producer of Probe cards used for wafer test. This was accomplished by exploiting novel processes to create wafer contact technology that, for the first time, derived contact precision and accuracy from process technology as opposed to hand assembly. Over the years up to today the company has experienced both strong growth and significant adversity, and has in tandem steadily improved and added to its technology portfolio to address the needs of customers focused on getting the greatest productivity possible out of their wafer testing processes. The now clear trend toward mobile computing and extreme integration is the latest technological and market force that is driving the adjustment of existing probe contact technologies and the creation of wholly new ones for wafer test. Formfactor continues to develop technology to address the future needs of our customers, and has taken its first steps toward the use of nanotechnology with the creation and public announcements of our award winning NanoPiercetm contact technology. This presentation will discuss the evolution of our technology, and the parallel business influences that together chart the path the company has taken from its founding 19 years ago to today.
